Alexandra Street upgrade nears completion

Te Awamutu's Alexandra Street upgrade is close to completion despite some unforeseen delays.

The last stage of the sealing work is expected to be completed around the middle of June.

The $2 million upgrade has involved laying new water and wastewater pipes as well as resealing the road, resulting in cost savings to council by combining it all into one project.

The section outside Te Awamutu College is largely complete and the remaining section down to Fonterra will be sealed last.

There will be some times when homeowners and businesses face restricted access, and the contractor, Downer, is working with those affected to try and keep disruption to a minimum.

Traffic delays are possible as are detours away from Alexandra Street.

Service Delivery Manager Barry Bergin thanked the residents, businesses and motorists for their on going patience during the final phase of the work.
