Cambridge power restored - conservation efforts still needed

Cambridge residents are being encouraged to continue to conserve water for the next few hours as water reservoir levels replenish following a 12-hour power outage.
Those connected to the Pukerimu water supply scheme will need to rely on their stored water supplies until the reservoir supply increases from critical levels which saw it switched off earlier this afternoon.
The power outage was caused by an explosion at the Cambridge substation around midnight and was restored until about 1.30pm.
Water Services Manager Lorraine Kendrick said while the power had been restored people needed to keep up their conservation measures to allow the reservoirs to refill.
Mrs Kendrick said in some cases water supply may be discoloured. People should run their taps until the water ran clear if this was an issue.
The council was fielding a number of calls and the Water Services team were attending to issues in a priority order, the first of which was to recommission the parts of the water supply network that was shutdown.
We thank people for their patience and co-operation during this time.
