Kihikihi upgrade progressing well
The upgrade work to Kihikihi's main street has made excellent progress over February, with new water pipes laid, and some important work completed in preparation for the laying of new footpaths.
The overhaul of Lyon Street includes laying new stormwater drains, footpaths, kerbs, furniture and planting. Much of the preparation work on the east side of the street has been completed.
New watermain and stormwater pipes have been laid, some sections of the road have new kerbing constructed, while an upgrade to the accessway within the Kihikihi Domain has been completed.
Work to lay the pavers that will form the new footpath is beginning this week, with work to replace the remaining sections of kerbing and drainage to be completed over the coming fortnight.
Work will continue on the intersection of Whitmore Street and Lyon Street to improve the layout and make it safer.
In total, the upgrade work will include 2000 square metres of footpath paving, 650 metres of kerb and channel, 500 metres of new stormwater lines, catchpits and manholes, and new street furniture including seats, bins, bollards and a bus shelter.
