Parking enforcement officers out in lead up to Christmas
27 November 2012
People who flout parking time limits in the central business districts of Cambridge and Te Awamutu may find they land themselves a fine in the lead up to Christmas.
Waipa District Council staff will be undertaking more parking checks to ensure that people do not park longer than the time limits allow.
Planning and Regulatory Manager Wayne Allan said it was important retailers had every opportunity for their customers to find parking spaces in the time restricted areas.
It is about making sure that there are equal opportunities for people to access the retail precinct during what is traditionally a busy time of year, said Mr Allan.
We have historically received complaints from people about motorists who park outside businesses all day and that is not fair on other shoppers or on retailers as it can have an effect on trade, he said.
People wanting to park for longer than the time limits allowed in the main streets had the opportunity to take advantage of the free car parks the council provided. Council staff are also looking to improve the number of directional blue P signs to these car parks.
