Putting the record straight

Waipa District Council has a new page on its website aimed at correcting misinformation appearing in Letters to the Editor.
Putting the Record Straight' is a page dedicated to clarifying or correcting misinformation in relation to the council's activities.
Chief Executive Garry Dyet said there had been a number of letters recently which were based on incorrect information, and the council owed it to the community to ensure factual information was available.
We appreciate that the editors of our local newspapers have on occasion given us the opportunity to respond to some letters in the same issue that they are printed, but we needed a more reliable mechanism to ensure our community gets the information it requires in a timely way.
Putting the Record Straight is essentially an apolitical commentary to correct misinformation, any political elements will not be addressed, he said.
It is particularly important in the lead up to the October elections that people have the opportunity to get the facts so they are fully-informed when they exercise their democratic right.
Putting the Record Straight' can be accessed from the front page of www.waipadc.govt.nz and will be updated as new letters appear.
