Rates rebate deadline approaching
Are you eligible for a rates rebate? If so you will need to send your application for a rebate to Waipa District Council by 30 June.
The rates rebate scheme applies to anyone on a low income - not just those drawing National Superannuation - and is a subsidy to help with the cost of paying rates.
The rates rebates scheme was first introduced in 1973 to help those on lower incomes meet the cost of paying their rates, and was overhauled in 2006, with the thresholds increased significantly.
To the end of March, 1210 Waipa residents have benefitted from a share of $628,000 in rates rebates.
For the 2012/13 year the income threshold for the rebate is $23,650, and the maximum rebate is $590. Those above the threshold may still be eligible for a rebate depending on their circumstances.
Details of who is eligible for a rebate, along with the application form, is available from the council's website or by calling us on 0800 924 723.
