Trust's expansion sees move to hall

Te Awamutu's Safer Communities Charitable Trust has been given a five-year licence to use the upper level of the Kihikihi Memorial Hall for its office space.

The Memorial Hall is owned and operated by the Waipa District Council and the licence was granted by the Council's finance and corporate committee at its meeting earlier this week (Tuesday, March 1).

The Trust requested the use of the hall because of its growing operations and need for more space.

Council's manager property services Colin Windelborn said the Hall's upper level was currently under-used. He said having the Trust as a permanent tenant was in the best interests of the community and the building, as the Trust would be required to maintain the space.

Kihikihi will still have plenty of capacity to accommodate other casual hall users in the Town Hall and the lower level of the Memorial Hall, Mr Windelborn said.

The Te Awamutu Safer Communities Charitable Trust was started by the Te Awamutu Community Board in December 2006. The Trust has staff and members from the community, police and district council working together throughout the Te Awamutu environs to build safer and healthier communities'.

The five-year licence will cost the Trust $408 per year. The Trust will be required to cover its own operating expenses such as water, sewage, electricity, telephones, insurance, and any interior upgrades and general maintenance of the hall's upper level.
