Waipa’s maps online
Waipa's maps online
6 April 2011
Waipa property owners can now get information about the geographical features of their land from a new website developed by the Waipa District Council.
Maps Online is a free service for people to view and print aerial photography of the district, access information about district plan zones and designations, find property rating information, and find the location of underground water and drainage services.
Council's information services manager Mark Hogan said the website, developed in-house by the council's information technology and geographical information systems (GIS) departments, made the council's GIS information available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
"In the past, information about property boundaries, aerial photography and district plan zones had to be provided by council staff. This website gives the public access to the same resources council staff would use to compile these sorts of requests."
Mr Hogan said the site would be very well used by surveyors, engineers, solicitors and real estate agents, but would also be useful for property owners developing their land.
Properties can be searched by legal description, title or property number, in addition to the physical address and road name. Once located, information about the property can be obtained, such as stormwater, water and wastewater pipes, property boundaries, zones and landscape characteristics.
Mr Hogan said the information on the website was not intended as a replacement for a Land Information Memorandum (LIM) report or a legal title search, and people should continue to request these items through the council and Land Information New Zealand. He added the user's guide on the website should be read before the site is used.
