Trust to be established for Cambridge Town Hall
A change in management is just around the corner for the Cambridge Town Hall.
With support from the community, it’s full steam ahead with the set up of an independent charitable trust to undertake the re-development of the iconic Hall and ensure the community gets the most from this asset.
Waipā District Council will retain ownership of the Cambridge Town Hall on behalf of the community and contribute to maintenance costs. But day-to-day running and promotion of the Hall to increase usage and make the most of other funding and revenue streams will sit with the Trust.
The Trust will seek wider community input into the re-development and use of the Hall.
Waipā Mayor Jim Mylchreest said applications were now sought for six to eight founding trustees who are passionate about the Town Hall and have governance experience to bring to the Trust.
“This is a great opportunity for Trustees who can think strategically, have financial acumen, and can
govern a charitable trust effectively,” said Mylchreest.
“Skills, networks and experience in performing and visual arts, venue and event management,
capital fundraising, capital project development, community engagement, compliance and risk management, accounting and finance, law, communications, and working with local government will also be highly desirable.”
Mylchreest said the Town Hall had a huge amount of potential and he was confident the establishment of the Trust was the most effective way to bring it up to standard, maintain its heritage status, and reactivate it as a premier local venue.
The initial trustees would be appointed by a joint group made up of experienced directors, trustees and community representatives.
Trustees will be appointed for up to three-year terms. The role is voluntary and unremunerated but costs are expected to be reimbursed.
