Residents without internet shouldn’t panic over rates, says CFO
Waipā District Council property rates are due today and while the majority of rates are paid through direct debit or online payments, Waipā District Council chief financial officer Ken Morris says those who don’t have internet access don’t need to worry.
“We encourage our residents to pay their property rates using the online payment functions available on our website or through direct debit, as most already do.
“However, we understand some people in our community aren’t familiar with online payments or don’t have access to the internet. With the current lockdown conditions under Level 4, we know that means there are a few ratepayers who can’t come into council premises and pay at the counter as they normally would.”
Morris said the council wanted to hear from people who were unable to use its online payment features ahead of the penalty date, as arrangements could be made.
“These are extenuating circumstances we find ourselves in, so if you’re unable to pay online or via direct debit, please contact our customer support team so we can assist you.”
A penalty is due to be added from 30 August for late payments.
