50 free spots on waste-free course for Waipā residents
Waipā District Council is sponsoring 50 free spaces for residents to learn how to live life with less waste.
Hosted by Cambridge local, Nicola Turner from Mainstream Green, the ‘Zero Waste Living for Everyday People’ course is exclusive to Waipā residents and takes attendees through the 'whys' and 'hows' of waste, and arms them with lots of easy ways to reduce waste at home over six weeks of video lessons and interactive resources.
Council’s Waste Minimisation Officer Sally Fraser said the Council was pleased to be able to offer 50 spaces for people to learn about zero waste online as the district moves through different alert levels.
“This course is so great for beginners as it looks at the big picture but also practical steps people can take at a personal level. And being online is a good option these days to make it really accessible for our residents.”
“It’s a mix of live online Q&A, weekly recorded videos, and written resources. It’s designed for people who are just starting out in zero waste lifestyle. And the best news is it’s free for the first 50 residents who sign up.”
Kicking off on 3 November and split into 6 weekly modules, the course will step people through everything they need to get motivated and start reducing their household waste.
“It also gives you a few hacks to try when it comes to food, personal care and cleaning products and other items that tend to make up the bulk of our waste items,” Fraser added.
Turner said it’s all about perspective. A shift in mindset.
"Reducing waste doesn't have to take a heap of time or effort - it's all about making simple changes that suit our lifestyle. The great news is that we're spoilt for choice here in Waipā with lots of amazing options to help us make better choices that are a bit lighter on the planet."
