Following a challenging year for events in Waipā due to COVID-19, Waipā District Council has allocated funding to 3 events from the District Promotion Fund and the Community Event Fund on Wednesday 1 December 2021.
An allocation of $5,000 was made from the District Promotion Fund to support a ‘Drive In Cambridge Christmas Movie night’. The District Promotion Fund promotes the Waipā district as an attractive place to live, work, invest and visit.
A further $4,600 was allocated from the Community Event Fund to support 2 grassroots events which build and celebrate community pride. The 2 events include ‘Ngati Apakura and Rangiaowhia Commemoration’ and ‘Arts on Tour NZ: Alpacas Social Club’.
The council is excited for the upcoming summer months and are proud to support ongoing events for people of all ages and interests including sporting events, music and cultural festivals, theatre shows and hospitality events.
Mayor Jim Mylchreest said following a challenging few months for Waipā-based events, we look forward to supporting upcoming events now that we have more certainty with the new COVID-19 framework.
“It’s exciting to see such enthusiasm from event organisers wanting to embrace the new framework system and host their events in our district, both new and returning,” said Mylchreest.
Mylchreest said it will continue to be challenging time for events as they plan events under the new COVID-19 protection framework and we respect the fact that COVID-19 restrictions have put a massive strain on the events sector.
“Events in Waipā will continue to play a major role in boosting community wellbeing and attracting visitors to the district to help strengthen our economy and provide our communities with new opportunities.”
