Public called on to help Waipā move with the times
Locals have the power to help shape the next 30 years in Waipā with the recent launch of community feedback for the Council’s progressive new transport strategy that affects all residents.
“You will discover it is bigger and bolder than just transport! We are adapting infrastructure to meet changing lifestyles and enhancing community wellbeing. It’s about addressing climate change, safety and improving freight connections. Expect to see exciting new developments with roading, walking and cycle ways,”” says Bryan Hudson, Transport Manager for the Waipā District Council.
The public are invited to give feedback on what ideas they like the most. The timeframe has been extended to March 22nd to make up for interruptions associated with COVID-19. People can complete a five-minute online survey via the council website or do a longer submission if they wish.
“We need more options to connect our people with the places they love. It is essential we future proof the Waipā travel network to protect against climate change and the extraordinary growth we’re facing,” says Bryan.
The strategy underpins the Government Policy Statement on Land Transport which recognises the important role of transport in supporting well-being and liveability in New Zealand communities.
Bryan notes the strategy is focused on responding to national changes and what the community have asked for through early engagement with stakeholders. “We recognise that transport affects everyone, so naturally we’ve put people at the centre of our solution,” says Bryan.
The Draft Transport Strategy will be reviewed at least every five years to ensure its relevance with policy and community aspirations.
“Waipa is moving with the times in an adventurous new direction! It’s time for residents to have their say. I recommend watching the 90 second animated video for a dynamic introduction. To make it easy, we’ve provided a quick-read version of the main document called Strategy at Glance and a five-minute online feedback form,” says Bryan.
The Council also accepts feedback via email, post or hard copy. Hard copy versions of the online feedback form are available by visiting the council office or phoning 0800 WAIPĀDC
(0800 924 723).
