Travelling between the Waipā District and Hamilton City
just became that much easier, with a new timetable doubling the number of daily
services.
Waikato’s
first EV bus fleet took over the Cambridge (20) and Te Awamutu (24) routes this
week, with buses every 40 minutes, ensuring the public transport option is a
viable and cost-effective method for daily commuters.
Taking
advantage of the new timetable, Waipā District Council transport manager Bryan
Hudson said the increase in services meant that he could easily hop on a bus to
Hamilton to attend meetings.
“Travel time is shortened by not having to look for parking
at the other end, and I get time to focus on other things or catch up on work
during the journey,” Hudson said.
Having a Bee
Card is the cheaper option for frequent travellers, providing fare capping and
free transfers between buses. Fares are calculated by the number of zones you
travel through.
Both the
Cambridge and Te Awamutu services travel through three zones making the average
cost per trip between $4 - $6 for an adult fare.
