Ohaupō Community, Sport and Recreation Centre
The Ohaupō Community, Sport and Recreation Centre officially opened on Forkert Road in June 2020.
Waipā District Council contributed $703,000 to the project, of which $500,000 will be repaid through a targeted rate paid by local households over 30 years.
The remaining $203,000 contribution from Council came from a reserve fund built up by earnings from arbitrage arrangements.
The project also received funding support from the former Ohaupō Bowling Club, Lottery Community Facilities, Trust Waikato, community fundraising, grants and donations.
The facility
The Ohaupō Community, Sport and Recreation Centre, also known as the Ohaupō Hub, has created a modern, central facility for a variety of groups.
Replacing former rugby clubrooms, the new facility includes a community room, kitchen and bar facilities, a separate clubroom, changing rooms and a gym.
It is well-equipped to host local and national events and will be available for all community, sport and recreation groups to use.
Background
In September 2017, Council was asked to part-fund a new community facility in Ohaupō.
The project was driven by a steering group made up of representatives from the Ohaupō Rugby and Sports Club, other local groups and the wider community.
The decision to support the development of the Ohaupō Community, Sport and Recreation Centre has not impacted any decision around the future of the Ohaupō War Memorial Hall.
