20 year old walkway upgraded

A busy walkway in Leamington has just had $60,000 upgrade.

The walkway on Upper Kingsley Street to Wordsworth Street has had its old steps removed, the pathway realigned to suit the contour better, new steps built, some retaining walls constructed and boardwalk bridging completed in two stages in June and September this year.

Waipa District Council Group Manager Service Delivery, Barry Bergin said the path was 20 years old and had reached the end of its useful life.

The 140 stretch is part of the Leamington walkway network that links river walks to streets and the town belt.
