Waipā District Council was one of many organisations who discovered they had incorrectly applied the complex Holidays Act legislation.
This was identified by our internal auditors KPMG who identified problems with the way the payroll system was configured.
The error means some current and former staff employed between 1 December 2016 and 28 February 2023 were underpaid some of their holiday pay when they took leave, had leave paid out, or left us.
Since then, we have been working with consultants at KPMG to identify the affected staff and the entitlements they are owed.
We have found that of the 678 staff employed during that time, 344 are affected.
