Governance Statement

Our Governance Statement is a collection of information about the processes that we use to engage with the district's residents. It outlines how we make decisions and shows how residents can influence those processes.

It also promotes local democracy by providing the public with information on ways they can influence local democratic processes.

The Governance Statement is a collection of information outlining:

  • The functions, responsibilities and activities of Council
  • Electoral arrangements
  • Governance structures and processes
  • The way elected members make decisions and relate to each other as well as to the management of council
  • Key Council policies

Code of Conduct for Councillors

The Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected from elected members in the exercise of their duties.

This policy sets out the rules on the claiming of expenses by elected members and the resources that will be available to them during their term of office.

Standing Orders

Standing orders contain rules for the conduct of the proceedings of local authorities, committees, subcommittees, subordinate decision-making bodies, and local and community boards. Their purpose is to enable local authorities to exercise their decision-making responsibilities in a transparent, inclusive and lawful manner.

In doing so the application of standing orders contributes to greater public confidence in the quality of local governance and democracy in general.
