Social media terms of use
Social media at Waipā District Council
We use various social media channels to connect with and inform our community. These platforms provide Waipā residents with updates on Council initiatives, issues, and opportunities that may impact them.
Our social media accounts are managed and monitored by the Communication and Engagement team during business hours, Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm. We may also monitor them occasionally during evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
For urgent matters, we encourage you to call our customer support team on 0800 924 723 – this is monitored 24/7 –, submit service requests through our website or via the Antenno app.
Community guidelines
Our channels are a space for constructive conversations and community engagement, where users can share their thoughts and opinions. We are committed to promoting a culture of respect, inclusivity, and safety for our staff and social media followers.
Please note that comments or private messages that don’t comply with our social media terms may be removed, and in some cases, you may be blocked from interacting with our channels.
By interacting with our channels, you agree to follow these community guidelines:
Keep your posts respectful | Do not include content, photos, videos, or links in your posts that can be considered offensive, racist, defamatory, inflammatory, threatening, harassing, discriminatory, sexual or hateful towards any individual, group or organisation. This includes our team, partners, employees, elected members, and others. |

No spam and trolling | Do not repeatedly send the same message or promotional content. Avoid trolling, which includes provoking or attacking others to cause a reaction or escalate a situation. |
Personal information | Never share your own or anyone else’s personal information on our social media channels. |
Stay on topic | Comments should be relevant to the post and contribute constructively to the discussion. We reserve the right to remove comments or turn off commenting on posts that are off topic. |
No electioneering | Our channels should not be used for political campaigning. Posts related to nominations, candidacies, or election campaigns—either positive or negative—will be removed. |
Avoid spreading false information | Do not share misinformation or disinformation. |
Avoid breaking the law or encouraging others to do so | Do not include content which is defamatory, breaches another person’s intellectual property rights or includes any other unlawful activity. |

While we encourage open and active discussions, we reserve the right to remove any comments that don't align with our terms of use.
- Moderation: We will monitor content and take action when necessary to ensure that our community guidelines are followed.
- Removal of content: If a comment or post violates our terms of use, we may remove it without prior notice.
- Blocking: In some cases, we may block users who repeatedly violate these guidelines. Depending on the nature of the violation, a warning may be given before a block is put in place.

Content responsibility | The contents of our social media accounts are intended for informational purposes only. Council is not responsible for any loss or damage resulting from the information on these sites or linked sites. We also do not endorse or take responsibility for content shared by users on our social media channels. Privacy | By interacting with our channels, you agree to our privacy policy and acknowledge that any personal data you share may be processed in accordance with it. Please review our full privacy policy. |
Who we follow | Council may choose to follow the accounts of other organisations. We follow them to stay updated on local, national and international trends and issues, and take part in relevant discussions. This also helps us to get feedback on our work. Our interactions with other social media accounts —like following them or engaging with their posts—does not mean we support any individual or organisation. We may connect with people and groups that have different, or critical and/or have opposing views. But this does not mean we endorse their information or guarantee it is accurate. |
