Alexandra Street upgrade virtually complete
3 July 2013
After months of hard work and disruption the project to upgrade Te Awamutu's Alexandra Street is now all but complete.
The $2 million project involved laying new water and wastewater pipes and reconstructing the road, reducing the overall cost to ratepayers by combining the work into one project.
The pipework and road building is now complete, with some road marking and other minor finishing touches remaining to be done.
This was a big, complex project, replacing pipes that in some cases were more than 100 years old, said Waipa District Council Road Corridor Manager Dawn Inglis.
We appreciate the support of the Alexandra Street residents and businesses while this work took place - the community showed great patience through the disruption and restricted access.
The work took approximately three weeks longer than expected, and the cost was within five per cent of the original budget. The delay was partly due to poor weather, and partly the need to have a flexible schedule to minimise disruption for both Te Awamutu College and the Fonterra factory.
