Alexandra Street works underway
7 December 2012
Major upgrade work is about to start on Te Awamutu's Alexandra Street.
Waipa District Council has contracted the services of Downer New Zealand to undertake the $2 million project that will see water and wastewater pipes renewed and the road reconstructed between Tawhiao Street and the railway crossing outside Fonterra.
Road Corridor Manager Dawn Inglis said cost savings have been achieved by combining the water services works with the road reconstruction. This will also reduce disruption to residents as the work is completed as a single package.
The work is expected to take around 14 weeks, starting with the piece of road outside Te Awamutu College over the Christmas Holiday period whilst the school holidays are underway.
Ms Inglis said possible disruption during construction to other business and property owners along Alexandra Street could include some short term restriction of vehicle access or possible loss of water supply.
The contractors had done a letter drop to notify residents in the area of the work and had consulted with affected businesses earlier in the year.
Any disruption to residents would be communicated prior to them being affected, she said.
We thank everyone in advance for their patience while this work is taking place as there may be delays to traffic along Alexandra Street at times.
