Applicant further considering pheasant shooting and horse trekking app

Further consideration is being given by the applicant on whether to proceed with a land use consent application to establish and operate a game shooting operation for up to eight shooters and 15 to 25 support staff at 314 Aspin Road in Cambridge. A horse trekking activity is also proposed.

Waipa District Council received the application on 28 February 2012 and it was placed on hold while a peer review of the acoustic (noise) assessment submitted with the application was undertaken.

Planning and Regulatory Manager Wayne Allan said the peer review has been received and staff have finalised its assessment of the environmental effects and affected persons however the applicant has since requested additional time to consider whether they wish to proceed with the application.

Once this decision has been received staff will then advise all persons who have contacted us as to the status of the application, Mr Allan said.

In addition we are also processing a Certificate of Compliance application received on 20 March 2012 to allow for a small-scale game bird shooting operation on the property, during the shooting season, as a permitted activity for up to five people (including shooters) engaged with the activity at any one time, he said.

Waikato Fish and Game have considered a permit application to allow for unlimited pheasant numbers to be shot on the property during the shooting season. This permit has been recommended for approval subject to conditions.
