Avantidrome request ‘off table’
Avantidrome request off table'
19 May 2014
The Home of Cycling Charitable Trust has withdrawn its submission to Waipa District Council's 2014-2015 draft Annual Plan.
Mayor Jim Mylchreest received a letter late on Friday (May 16) from Trust chief executive Geoff Balme. The letter asks that the submission to any potential new stage two development at the Avantidrome be deferred.
The Home of Cycling Charitable Trust had submitted to the draft annual plan, requesting support for a new stage two development at the Avantidrome.
There has been significant community feedback about the proposal - both positive and negative. Much of that feedback has focussed on the submission requesting a $2 million potential contribution from Waipa District Council, rather than focusing on the wider picture or on the long-term vision we were trying to communicate, Mr Balme wrote.
With the project being in its early stages, we respectfully ask that our submission to the 2014-2015 draft Annual Plan on any potential new stage two development of the Avantidrome be deferred.
Waipa Mayor Jim Mylchreest said the early communication of the Trust's decision to take the submission off the table was useful.
Final decisions on the council's draft annual plan would not be formalised until the end of June.
