Candidate Information evening for 2013 local elections
27 June 2013
Do you want to contribute to the future of your community and your district?
In October this year, elections will be held to find representatives for Community Boards, Councillors and a new Mayor.
On 10 July, Waipa District Electoral Officer Warwick Lampp is holding a Candidate Information evening for those interested in standing in the 2013 local elections in the Waipa District.
This will be held at 6pm at the Don Rowlands Centre, Mighty River Domain, 601 Maungatautari Road, Cambridge.
At the information evening, those who are interested in standing can learn about:
- The changes to the Local Electoral Act 2001.
- The positions which will be decided by the election.
- The qualification rules and nomination process to stand for election.
- The rules governing candidate promotion during the election campaign.
- The Pre-election Report.
- The level of commitment required as a representative of a Community Board, the Council or Mayor.
The candidate information evenings are a valuable opportunity for those interested in standing for election, Mr Lampp said. Potential candidates will learn about what they need to do, the positions that will be decided and the responsibilities that come with being an elected representative.
Being an elected representative means you can help play a part in the future of your community and your district.
Nominations for candidates open on 19 July 2013 and close on 16 August 2013. Postal voting papers will be sent out from 20 September, with voting closing at 12 noon on 12 October 2013.
