Council expects last minute rush
2 April 2014Waipa District Council is predicting a last minute rush from people wanting to have their say on its spending plans for the coming year.
Submissions on the Council's draft annual plan, which outlines what it proposes spending and where, will close this Friday (April 4). By Tuesday, only 24 submissions has been received. Four submitters indicated that they wished to address the Council in relation to their submission.
Strategy manager Gary Knighton said nearly 90 submissions had been received last year and he expected most submissions would come in at the last minute once again.
That's the way it goes. The important thing is not when they come in; it's the fact that people do take the time to have their say, he said.
The submissions received to date had provided feedback on the proposed library for Te Awamutu, water metering, comment on the proposed rates rise and comments about development fees.
Mr Knighton said a wide range of views had been expressed, reflecting the diversity of views within the district.
All the submissions will be made publicly available. Council will consider the submissions at its Stratgy and Policy Meeting in May and will formally adopt the final Annual Plan in June this year.
