Entries invited for Waipa Heritage Awards

Entries are now open for the 2013 Waipa Heritage Awards.
The awards are an opportunity to celebrate the social and cultural heritage of the Waipa District and acknowledge those who are helping to preserve our unique past for the future.
There are five award categories and any heritage projects completed in the Waipa District before the closing date of 21 June 2013 are eligible.
- Restoration/Preservation - of heritage in a manner sympathetic to the period. (Buildings, Landscapes, Vehicles, Equipment, Monuments)
- Adaptive re-use and/or Redesign - of heritage in order to prolong its history. (Buildings, Areas, Landscapes)
- Promotion/Access/Interpretation - that enhances public access, understanding or appreciation of Waipa's heritage. (Trails, Education, Tourism, Talks, Publications, Research)
- Public Community Service - volunteer involvement and commitment to cultural and social activities that enrich Waipa's preservation and/or understanding of its heritage.
- Traditional Skills and Knowledge -demonstrate the teaching and/or use of traditional methods of craftsmanship.
Waipa Museums and Heritage Director Anne Blyth said the awards are a time to celebrate the rich heritage of the Waipa district.
It's an opportunity to pay tribute to the people that are passionate about showcasing and preserving our history for our future generations, she said.
Entry packs are available at Waipa District Council offices, and the museums and libraries in Te Awamutu and Cambridge. Entries close on June 21 and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on July 25.
