Further boost for CBD
29 January 2014
Te Awamutu's central business district is set for a $350,000 boost.
Further streetscaping work, part of the Heart of Te Awamutu' project, will begin on February 10. The upgrade will extend the existing streetscape by paving the Alexandra Street footpath between Churchill and Mutu Streets and paving the intersection at Bank and Teasdale Streets.
The work in Bank Street will provide a link between ANZAC Green and Alexandra Street and will include changes to the intersection to improve safety for pedestrians. It will also include new planting.
This budgeted work will complete the Heart of Te Awamutu project started in 2009-2010 by Waipa District Council.
Council's road corridor manager Dawn Inglis said the upgrade would add vibrancy to Te Awamutu and further enhance the central business district.
Local company Kingan Landscaping Ltd has been awarded the contract with work expected to take around three months.
