Have your say on Water Supply Bylaw
12 June 2013
Waipa residents are being invited to have their say on the proposed Water Supply Bylaw for the district.
Water services manager Lorraine Kendrick said the bylaw provides for the delivery of a safe and reliable drinking water supply to Waipa residents and businesses.
The bylaw seeks to regulate a wide range of activities associated with the provision of a public water supply system in order to maintain standards for public health and safety, she said.
The Waipa District Council Water Supply Bylaw was last reviewed in 2008. Since then, some issues had arisen that would best be addressed through a review of the current bylaw.
Mrs Kendrick said the council had adopted new policy documents and there was a need for the bylaw to better align with current policy and practice and the bylaws of neighbouring authorities in the sub-region.
Key changes in the proposed bylaw included:
- Structure, definition and formatting changes to improve Bylaw consistency
- Simplifying the application process to improve clarity
- Amending provisions for demand management and metering
- Recognition of the Pukerimu rural water supply and associated conditions
- The addition of conditions for restricted flow supply connections
- Technical aspects transferred from the Bylaw to individual permit conditions.
More information and submissions forms are available at the council offices.
