Help needed to curb crime in Cambridge
2 August 2013
Waipa District Council is calling on the Cambridge community to help curb a rise in crime in the town, which is costing ratepayers money.
In the latest incident, bronze and brass plaques have been ripped off a plinth at the Cook Street end of the Victoria Bridge, presumably to be sold as scrap metal.
This follows the theft of a number of metal catchpit grates, also in the vicinity of the Victoria Bridge, once again presumably for scrap metal. In addition there has been a large amount of tagging affecting buildings, playgrounds, parks, signs and the Cenotaph.
Waipa District Council Road Corridor Manager Dawn Inglis is calling on the Cambridge community to be vigilant, and to contact police if they see any suspicious activity.
If everyone in the community does their part to watch out for any signs of crime, and report it to the police, then hopefully we can put an end to this problem, she said.
