Heritage Fund applications open
6 December 2013
Heritage fans are being urged to apply for funding to help preserve and enhance the district's unique heritage.
Last year, a $70,000 Heritage Fund was established by the Waipa District Council. The fund was established to help in the management of historic buildings and for the protection and restoration of significant natural, cultural and archaeological sites.
Five applications were approved earlier this year for projects ranging from the installation of stoat traps at Maungatautari to the restoration work on the Valmai House gazebo.
Funding cannot be used for the creation of new monuments, one-off events or the design, build or renovation of historic replicas.
There are two funding rounds each year and applications can be made by individuals, trusts, companies, community groups or departments within council. The fund will only support projects within the district and applications must be made on the prescribed form.
Applications for the March 2014 round are now open and will close on January 31, 2013. Funding decisions will be made by Council's newly established Heritage Committee.
Those wishing to apply for funding, or wanting more information, should contact Waipa District Council or go the Council's website.
