Heritage members sought
21 January 2013
Heritage enthusiasts are being sought for a Waipa District Council committee which aims to promote, protect and enhance the district's natural, cultural, built, environmental and recreational heritage.
The new Heritage Committee will replace two previous advisory bodies - the Heritage Council and the Biodiversity Council. Councillor Sue Milner will chair the committee supported by Councillor Hazel Barnes. Up to eight remaining members will be appointed from the community.
The committee will administer and allocate Council's $70,000 Heritage Fund and make recommendations to Council on heritage issues. It will also approve applications for the Heritage and Biodiversity Awards, develop a strategic vision for heritage in the Waipa District and provide comment on resource consent applications where appropriate.
At the end of January, Council will begin advertising for expressions of interest from individuals keen to apply to be a member of the committee. Council is seeking community representatives as well as people with heritage experience and qualifications, particularly those with roles or links to relevant organisations.
Individuals wishing to be considered for the committee should write or email Tony Roxburgh, manager community facilities, advising their interest. Applications must be received by 5pm on Monday, February 10. Applications will be considered and Committee members appointed by Council in late February.
