Heritage support sought
21 July 2014 Six applicants have applied for funding to help preserve and enhance Waipa district's unique heritage.
Waipa District Council administers an annual $70,000 Heritage Fund to help manage historic buildings and protect and restore significant natural, cultural and archaeological sites in its district. A recent call for applications to the fund has seen six projects put forward for consideration.
Applications have been received from Te Awamutu's Parish of St John (to replace downpipes and install fire and burglary protection), the Cambridge Bowling Club (to replace a roof and spouting) and from Graham and Carol Wood from Cambridge's Abergeldie heritage home (to replace guttering).
Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust is seeking funding for kiwi transmitters and Waipa District Council parks staff have applied for funding for habitat restoration at Lake Rotopiko.
The applications will be considered by the council's Heritage Committee at the end of July.
