Kihikihi upgrade almost complete
28 June 2013
The project to upgrade and refresh Kihikihi's main street is all but complete, with only the finishing touches remaining to be done.
The overhaul of Lyon Street began in January, and has involved laying new watermain and stormwater drains, footpath paving, kerbs, new street furniture and planting.
In total, the upgrade work involved 2000 square metres of footpath paving, 650 metres of kerb and channel, 500 metres of new stormwater lines, catchpits and manholes, 19 new street lights and new street furniture including seats, bins, bollards and a bus shelter.
Due to savings identified during the project, work was extended beyond the original scope to include improvements to the retaining wall and footpath between the bus stop and historic Police House.
This has been a great spruce-up for Lyon Street, Waipa District Council Road Corridor Manager Dawn Inglis said.
We've had some great feedback from the community and the result of this work is a much improved town centre for the people of Kihikihi to enjoy.
