Liquor banned again this summer
9 September 2014
Temporary liquor bans will be imposed again this summer at the Mighty River Domain, Lake Karapiro.
It will be an offence to consume alcohol on specific dates during organised events from November through to April.
This is the fourth year in a row the ban has been in place following positive feedback from event organisers, lake and domain users, local residents and police.
The temporary ban covers the entire 19-hectare domain with the exception of the Don Rowlands Centre and buildings belonging to sporting groups.
The ban will be relaxed from 5pm - 9pm to allow visitors, particularly campers, to enjoy a quiet drink with dinner. The only exception to this will be during the hydroplane event scheduled for January 30 to February 1 next year when a 24-hour liquor ban will be in place. This was as a result of liquor issues experienced during last year's event.
