Local Alcohol Policy now open for submissions
4 July 2013
The Waipā District's first Draft Local Alcohol Policy is now open for public submissions.
Under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 communities have the ability to formulate their own Local Alcohol Policy. A Local Alcohol Policy will regulate the number, location, trading hours and licence conditions of licensed premises.
The Waipā District Council formulated its Draft Local Alcohol Policy after conducting a pre-consultation survey in April and May.
Submissions open on 9 July and close on 9 August and members of the public are encouraged to have their say. Submission forms and a copy of the Draft Local Alcohol Policy are now available from Council offices and libraries or by clicking here.
There are a number of other changes under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 which affect the licensing of premises and managers, as well as the sale and promotion of alcohol. More information about the changes to licensing laws under the Act is available from the Ministry of Justice's website.
Once the submission period for the Draft Local Alcohol Policy has closed, hearings will be held where those who made written submissions will have the opportunity to present their views. Once all the submissions have been considered the Draft Local Alcohol Policy will become the Provisional Alcohol Policy. Following this there will be a period during which those who submitted have a right of appeal.
It is expected that the Waipā District Local Alcohol Policy will come into effect from early 2014.
