Local heritage given boost
06 August 2014Te Awamutu's Parish of St John has secured funding to help install fire and burglary alarms as well as replace downpipes.
The money has come from Waipa District Council's Heritage Committee which administers an annual $70,000 fund. The fund is used to help manage historic buildings and protect and restore significant natural, cultural and archeological sites in the district.
Six projects were put forward for funding at the last round. Two projects were declined, two were approved in full and two were approved in part.
The Parish of St John secured more than $5,000 towards its two projects. Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust was granted $5334 towards its kiwi recovery operation. A joint project between Waipa District Council and the Department of Conservation to restore habitat at Lake Rotopiko was granted $3,000.
Applications for funding from the Cambridge Bowling Club and Abergeldie heritage home were both declined.
The next funding round will open in December although earlier applications will be accepted and held over for consideration.
