Mayor appoints committee chairs

It's a mix of the old and the new heading Waipa District Council's key committees.

Mayor Jim Mylchreest has appointed Cambridge's John Bishop as chair of the Strategic Planning and Policy Committee and Te Awamutu's Andrew Brown as chair of the Finance and Corporate Committee. Both Mr Bishop and Mr Brown are first-time Councillors.

Five-term Councillor and Deputy Mayor Grahame Webber will chair the Service Delivery Committee and fourth-time Councillor Bruce Thomas will chair the Regulatory Committee.

Mayor Mylchreest said heading the financial committee was a natural fit for Mr Brown, a qualified accountant with a keen interest in strong financial management.

Similarly, John's background as former chair of the Cambridge Community Board has given him a very good head-start in understanding the planning and policy issues facing the district. Either way, there are a couple of old hands in Grahame and Bruce to seek advice from if required.

All Committee meetings are publicly advertised and, like full Council meetings, are open to the public.
