More information sought on hotel proposal
28 April 2014
Waipa District Council has commissioned further research into a proposal to build a 23-bed boutique hotel in Cambridge.
In April, the Council asked that the heritage assessment submitted with the application to build the hotel be peer reviewed. That review by independent consultants recommended additional research be undertaken into the history of the existing house at 17 Hamilton Road and its original owner.
The council is now seeking that additional information. The report is expected in June and will include a recommendation in regard to the application for demolition.
Independently of this, the hotel developer is also reviewing the plans he lodged for the proposed hotel after considering the submissions. He will update the council on the outcome of his review.
Council's planning and regulatory manager Wayne Allan said once council had received the additional information, plus the further report from the developer, it would make all the information available to the submitters. It would also set a date to hear the resource consent application.
There were 27 submissions received by the council on the proposal to build the hotel. Mr Allan said all submitters have been advised that further information has been requested and will also be advised of the hearing date once set. A hearing was now likely to be held around September this year.
