New use for bowling club
10 December 2013
Waipa District Council is proposing to lease the old Leamington bowling club facilities to a charitable trust.
The Aspire Wellness Trust is a not-for-profit organisation offering coaching and training in fitness, nutrition, mental health, financial, social and creative endeavours.
If there are no objections, the Trust will take over the lease from mid-January 2014.
The bowling club facilities on the Leamington Domain reverted to council ownership in May this year following the dissolution of the Leamington Bowling Club.
After receiving a number of proposals Council has agreed to let the Aspire Wellness Trust lease the facilities. As part of the lease conditions, the Trust must make the facilities available to other community groups, including the Cambridge-Rotorua Live Steamers, when this fits around the Trust's own needs.
The old bowling club greens will be opened up and incorporated into the wider Leamington Domain. A proposal to convert the lawns to formal gardens was considered too costly.
The new lease has now been publicly notified. Any person or organisation wishing to object to the new lease proposal must do so by January 13 2014.
