Nominations open soon
11 November 2013
Nominations open next Monday [November 18] to fill the vacant spot on the Cambridge Community Board.
The recent elections left one vacancy and Waipa District Council, by law, must hold a by-election to fill it.
Waipa's deputy electoral officer Jennie McFarlane said the Department of Internal Affairs had forced a slight change to the by-election timetable. Nominations now open a week earlier than first advised, and close on December 16 instead of December 23.
Should only one person be nominated, they will be elected unopposed and the result will be declared on December 21 2013. If not, and the election is contested, the outcome will not be known until mid-February next year.
Only Cambridge ward voters, about 12,600 people, will be eligible to vote in the postal election. Eligible candidates do not have to live in Cambridge but do have to be a New Zealand citizen, be enrolled on the parliamentary roll and be nominated by two people who names appear on the electoral roll for Cambridge.
Nomination forms will be available from Council's website from Monday November 18 and can also be collected from Council offices in Te Awamutu and Cambridge.
