Potential funding for arts groups
19 August 2014 Waipa's creative community is being encouraged to apply for nearly $9,000 in funding which has been ring-fenced to support arts events and projects in the Waipa district.
The funding is provided by Creative NZ via its Creative Communities Scheme and is given to the council to administer each year.
In Te Awamutu, previous recipients have included a floral art group, members of the Korean community who presented an exhibition of their art works, a Shakespeare performance and a Maori women's service group that provided art classes for children.
In Cambridge, previous recipents have included a local choir, organisers of the Cambridge Autumn Frestival, a Christmas concert and a local film producer.
Funding administrator Andrea Duncan said the criteria for support was reasonably broad.
Applicants should be creating opportunities for local communities to engage with and participate in local arts activities, they could be supporting artistic cultural traditions or they could be encouraging young people to get involved in arts activities, she said.
Funding can be provided for materials for arts activities and programmes, venue or equipment hire, personnel and administrative costs for short-term projects and the promotion of arts activities.
Information on eligibility, along with application forms, is available on the Waipa District Council website (www.waipadc.govt.nz). Applications for funding open next month and close on Tuesday, September 31. Grants are allocated by a committee made up local community arts council members plus people with experience in the arts.
Funding decisions will be made by 22 October 2014.
