Restricted fire season no longer in force
A restricted fire season that has been in force across the district since December 1 has now been lifted.
The restricted rural fire season had been in place until yesterday (April 30) due to the extreme conditions experienced over the summer however sufficient rain in the last fortnight has lowered the fire risk.
People should continue to be mindful of the three levels of fire control that still apply.
Fires in the open air in the urban areas of Te Awamutu, Kihikihi, Cambridge and Leamington require a permit all year round.
Most rural settlements including Pirongia, Ohaupo, Karapiro and Te Mawhai require a permit all year round.
Fires in rural areas require permits from 1 December to 30 March each year. No permits are required outside those times.
Any fires should not cause nuisance or damage.
Applications for fire permits should be lodged at either one of our offices or by calling 0800 924 723.
