Roads being repainted
7 November 2013
Waipa motorists are being urged to watch out for contractors undertaking road marking on behalf of Waipa District Council.
Council, via an external contractor, repaints all Waipa road markings annually at a cost of nearly $300,000. New paint goes on urban roads in early summer, meaning contractors will be out in force over the next few weeks.
Manager road corridor Dawn Inglis said warmer weather often meant an increase in pedestrians.
Given that, we want to ensure features like pedestrian crossings are very clear. There is a prevalence of road markings around intersections so that's where road users can expect to see lots of activity.
Ms Inglis said rural road markings in the district were repainted before winter and the onset of fogs and rain. Council is aiming to have all its urban road markings repainted by Christmas.
