Small increase for pensioner housing
22 April 2014 Tenants in Waipa District Council's pensioner housing units have been advised of a modest rental increase.
Rents for the 126 housing units in Kihikihi, Cambridge and Te Awamutu are reviewed annually with any additional rental received used for ongoing property maintenance.
This year, 57 tenants will see an increase of between $2 and $3.99 per week. Another 51 tenants will have no increase at all. Under the Council's policy, the maximum weekly rental increase is $10 per week. The vast majority of tenants will continue to pay no more than 75 percent of the market rent of each unit.
The pensioner housing units owned by Council are self-funding; they are not subsidised by rates. Rental charges are reviewed annually by an independent assessor.
The new rents will come into effect from July 1 this year.
