Support for events offered
8 July 2014
Local event organisers are being invited to seek funding support from the Waipa District Council.
Each year, the council sets aside $100,000 in a special fund aimed at encouraging organisers to hold events in the Waipa district. Events encourage visitors, maximise the use of key sites and facilities, and encourage local residents to further enjoy being part of the greater Waipa community.
Events supported by the fund last year include the Cambridge-based Waipa Fun Run, Waka Ama Nationals at Lake Karapiro, the Maunga Cycle Challenge from Te Awamutu and the New Zealand International Polo Day at Kihikihi.
Applications for funding are reviewed by the District Promotions Fund Committee made up of Waipa Mayor Jim Mylchreest, councillors Sue Milner and John Bishop and community representatives Mervyn Gyde and Kevin Burgess.
Application forms are now available from council offices or from the website.
To be eligible for funding, events must be held within the Waipa district and must occur before June 30 2015. Funding applications close on Thursday July 31.
