Trustees sought for new Waipa Community Facilities Trust
7 November 2012
Inaugural trustees are being sought for the soon to be established Waipa Community Facilities Trust.
The independent trust is being formed to promote active sport and recreation and to undertake administration of leisure facilities within the district, with an initial focus on the Trust Waikato Te Awamutu Events Centre and the Cambridge Swimming Pool Complex. The two facilities have a budget of around $1.5 million a year.
The establishment process is being supported by Waipa District Council which resolved to establish an independent trust at its 25 September meeting with an aim of reducing the rates requirement to run the two facilities.
Business Support Group Manager Ken Morris said an independent panel would appoint four to six trustees who, on an unpaid basis, would be responsible for the creation of the trust's governance and management structures, including the appointment of a chief executive.
While an understanding of the sport and recreation sector is important, people with expertise in financial management, human resources, business development, marketing, governance and/or the education sectors are being sought as trustees, he said.
The positions were being advertised in newspapers and more information was available on the council's website www.waipadc.govt.nz.
It was hoped the formation of the trust would be completed early in the New Year, said Mr Morris.
