Waipa District Council and Car Parking Technologies team up in Cambrid
2 July 2013
The Waipa District Council and Cambridge-based Car Parking Technologies have teamed up to install 120 new parking sensors in the Cambridge town centre.
The sensors will be installed in the next few weeks in the main shopping areas around Victoria Street, Alpha Street and Empire Street and will be used to monitor car parking times.
Car Parking Technologies have agreed to supply and install the sensors for free, with only a small monthly charge over the next three years to cover maintenance. This means that the Waipa District Council is able to fund the initiative from within its existing budget.
In return Car Parking Technologies will be able to use Cambridge as a trial and demonstration site of its technology for prospective clients.
This is definitely a win-win situation for Cambridge, Waipa District Council Planning and Community Relationships Manager David Hall said. This initiative means that not only are we able to improve the availability of car parks for visitors to central Cambridge, but we are able to support an innovative local business in the process.
"Car Parking Technologies are delighted to provide Cambridge with this initiative, said Commercial Manager Jake Bezzant. For us, this project really makes sense as Cambridge is the birthplace of our global product. Having a live test site in Cambridge will allow us to install and test products that are sure to continue Car Parking Technologies' legacy of leading the global market."
The sensors are placed within an electronic disk which is installed in the centre of the car park. The disk can send data about how long a park has been occupied back to a web server, so Waipa District Council staff can monitor parking either from the office or remotely.
