Waipa Mayor will not seek re-election
28 May 2013
Waipa Mayor Alan Livingston today announced he will not be seeking re-election at the October Local Body Elections.
He told councillors at today's meeting that it had been a privilege to be Waipa's Mayor and civic leader for the past 12 years and the decision to vacate the role was tinged with sadness.
We are privileged to live in one of the few areas in the country that continues to experience growth and during my time as Mayor tremendous progress has been made, he said.
I am proud to have contributed to that, however, priorities and time demands change. Basically Waipa has been the fulltime priority for Janet and I and now we want to give some time to our family, especially now that we have grandchildren to enjoy.
Mr Livingston also paid tribute to Councillors, council staff, and the many people and organisations he worked with during his tenure.
It has been an inspiration to work with such positive, passionate and committed people and, thanks to them, the entire district has profited.
