Water treatment plant upgrade
18 November 2013
The Te Tahi water treatment plant will undergo a refurbishment over two nights later this month.
The plant, which supplies both Te Awamutu and Pirongia townships will be shut down during the upgrade from 10pm to 5am on November 25 and 27.
The work involves replacing parts to allow better control and monitoring of the treated water supply and to ensure stringent drinking water standards continue to be met.
Waipa District Council's water services manager Lorraine Kendrick said the upgrade involved cutting into the main supply pipe. A temporary bypass will allow the Pirongia township to continue to be supplied from the Te Tahi plant. Te Awamutu will be supplied by the Taylor's Hill reservoirs
The water storage at the Taylor's Hill reservoirs will be sufficient to supply people during what is a very quiet time of the night, Ms Kendrick said.
The majority of people will notice no difference in their supply however, some may experience slightly reduced water pressure over the two nights of work.
