Webber deputy again
1 November 2013
Long-standing councillor Grahame Webber has been re-appointed Deputy Mayor at Waipa District Council.
Mr Webber is in his fifth term as a district councillor and will play a key role in supporting first-term Mayor Jim Mylchreest.
Mr Webber is a long-term Waipa resident who grew up in Te Awamutu. He has farmed in Maungatautari for more than 30 years and currently lives in Cambridge.
Mayor Jim Mylchreest said the appointment was a logical one as Mr Webber brought experience and knowledge to the role that would be invaluable to a first-term Mayor.
Grahame is absolutely passionate about Waipa and its success. He understands how to work as a team and is willing to support and share his experience with fellow councillors, especially some of those new to local government. It's a critical role for me and Grahame was an obvious choice. I think we will work well together, he said.
Mr Webber said he was honoured to be asked to carry out the role and was excited about the job and about working with the new Mayor.
Local government is all about team work and getting things right for our communities, he said.
Mr Webber, along with councillor Sue Milner, has been appointed to the Cambridge Community Board; Mr Webber's sixth term on the Board. Mike Pettit has been elected Board chair and Elwyn Andree-Wiltens deputy chair.
Councillors Laurie Hoverd and first-term councillor Andrew Brown were appointed to the Te Awamutu Community Board with Richard Hurrell elected chair and Bernard Westerbaan deputy chair.
Appointments of Waipa District Council council committee chairs will be made at the first formal Council meeting on November 26.
